Hillsborough Candlelight Tour

Each year, the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce is proud to present the Hillsborough Candlelight Tour. 

Previous tours have featured a miniature train ride through Historic Hillsborough's neighborhoods, with stops along the way to enjoy decorated homes, horse and carriage rides, live entertainment, exhibits, and a visit with Santa. The event is held on the second Sunday of December.  So in 2018, the Candlelight Tour will be Sunday, December 9th. 


Hillsborough Candlelight Tour: A Salute To Hillsborough Veterans
Sunday, December 10, 2017
3:00 to 7:00 p.m.

Candlelight returns to Hillsborough! Tour homes from Revolutionary, Civil, WWI, WWII, Korean War & Vietnam Wars, featuring historical re-enactments provided by Orange Community Players and period correct holiday decorations created by the Hillsborough Garden Club. Each ticket includes admission to all tour stops and train/shuttle access. Advance Ticket prices are $15 purchased in advance through December 3, 2017, $20 thereafter.  Online ticket purchases will end at 11:55 p.m. on Saturday, December 9th. Tour is held rain or shine! Will Call/Ticket Pick Up will be at the Hillsborough/Orange County Chamber of Commerce at 121 N. Churton Street, Suite 1C the day of the tour, December 10th, anytime Noon to 6 p.m.  Your arm band (ticket) gives you access to all tour stops, including six homes, and mini train and shuttle access. Our shuttle (see map image and link to interactive online map below) is provided by Capital Ford and our Shuttle Sponsor is CEI-The Digital Office.

Plan to spend the day enjoying the sights and sounds of the holidays, though, as the festivities begin at Noon on December 10th! History comes alive in our unique shops and restaurants, as we celebrate the veterans of Hillsborough, from Revolutionary to Vietnam. The town offers the perfect backdrop to make a holiday memory with your family, among the offerings for the day you’ll find:

Antique Car Show: Vehicles from 1926 and on will be found around the town at various historic sites and tour stops.

Area merchants join the tour this year, providing history about the building, along with decorations and specials to promote days gone by!

Historic Neighborhood Mini Train Ride: $5.00 per person, free with Candlelight Tour ticket (arm band), runs Noon to 6 pm. Departs from Visitors’ Center on Cameron St. side.  With arm band, riders may get on and off throughout the day. The train does not pass tour locations, but offers stops throughout downtown area so it can be utilized to save steps.

The Inn at Teardrops and Webb House Bed & Breakfasts invite you to enjoy free entertainment & refreshments in a historic setting!

Narrated Carriage Rides offered through our historic neighborhoods, $8.00 person, lap children free.  There is a limit of 6 people per time slot. Runs Noon to 5 p.m.  Carriage Ride pick up point is at Court and King Streets, at the Old County Courthouse  You must purchase your tickets for Carriage Rides ahead of time by purchasing them online!

Area Churches provide perfect setting for local choirs and musicians to perform, Free.

First Baptist – 201 W. King St., Cedar Ridge Chorus 1:00 pm
Hillsborough United Methodist – Eno River Academy Strings Club & Chamber Orchestra – 1:30 pm

Gingerbread House Exhibit, sponsored by Matthew's Chocolates, at K's Closet, 200 North Churton Street in Downtown Hillsborough – Free, 1 to 4pm.

Proceeds from the Candlelight Tour ticket sales will go toward the Orange County Veterans Memorial at Chapel Hill.
