May Chamber Luncheon, May 20 - May’s Chamber Luncheon will feature Holden Thorp, Chancellor of UNC-CH. Chancellor Thorp will discuss the future of the University, Carolina North, and other aspects of university life that might affect Orange County. The Chamber will also award scholarships to its recipients at this meeting. The meeting will be at the Exchange Club at noon. Catering by the Gulf Rim.

Burwell School Spring Party & Auction, May 1 - The Burwell School Historic Site, one of Hillsborough’s finest treasures, is holding its 9th Annual Spring Party and Auction on Friday, May 1, from 6 to 9:30 pm. Tickets are $25 per person, and includes wine, soft drinks, hors d’oeuvres , music, and a silent and live auction, with auctioneer (and author) Michael Malone. The Burwell School Historic Site is located at 319 North Churton Street. All proceeds support the ongoing project of the Burwell School Historic Site and are tax deductible to the extent of the law. Cruise-In with a Twist, May 2 - Cruise-Ins with a Twist, presented by the Daniel Boone Merchants Association, Historic Speedway Group and the Bull City Street Rod Association, will be held Saturday, May 2 from 1 to 4 p.m. rain or shine at The Shops at Daniel Boone in Historic Hillsborough (South Churton Street, I-85 exit 164 or I-40 exit 261). There will also be specials at various businesses in The Shops at Daniel Boone, live music, prizes, food, and of course, plenty of classic cars. Oh, What a Night, May 2 - Duke HomeCare & Hospice will host its 7th Annual Gala “Oh, What a Night!” on Saturday, May 2, at Hope Valley Country Club. Sponsored by Cardinal State Bank, the evening includes a reception, silent and live auction, dinner and dancing. Tickets are $100 per person and all proceeds benefit Duke HomeCare & Hospice, which operates a center in the Meadowlands in Hillsborough. For more information, call 919-620-3853 ext. 326.

Community Networking Event, May 15 - Pinnacle, your monthly community news magazine, is hosting another Community Networking Event on Friday, May 15 from 5:30 to 9 pm at Occasions (286 East Front Street, Burlington). This event will include folks from Guilford, Forsyth, Caswell, Alamance, Orange Person and Rockingham Counties. Doors open at 5:30 pm, networking begins at 6 pm, buffet dinner at 7 pm. 2009 Spring Garden Tour, May 16 and May 17 - On Saturday, Mary 16 from 10 am to 4 pm, and Sunday, May 17 from 1 pm to 5 pm, visit some of Hillsborough’s loveliest gardens as the Alliance for Historic Hillsborough presents its Spring Garden Tour. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 the day of the tour, children 12 and under free. The event takes place rain or shine. In addition to the gardens, there will be special exhibits, gardening workshops, a plant sale, and a sidewalk sale among the merchants of downtown Historic Hillsborough. Beginning Sunday, November 9, The Village Diner will be open from 11 to 3 on Sundays, serving their buffet only. The Village Diner is located at 600 West King Street and is open from 6:30 am to 8 pm Monday through Friday
